Euro-BioImaging

Activities

Euro-BioImaging ERIC (eurobioimaging.eu) is the European Research Infrastructure for Imaging Technologies in Biological and Biomedical Sciences, which provides open physical user access to a broad range of state-of-the-art technologies in biological and biomedical imaging for life scientists in Europe and beyond through its Nodes, specialized and knowledgeable imaging facilities distributed across Europe.

Nodes are coordinated by a central Hub. The Hub for the coordination of the activities of the nodes in the field of in vivo/medical imaging, Med-Hub, is located inside the Department in a space assigned to the local CNR section of IBB, as CNR is the national representative entity in this ERIC. The other two parts of the central Hub are located at EMBL/Heidelberg for the coordination of biological imaging nodes and at Turku (Finland) for the legal/administrative activities, respectively

The Molecular Imaging Center of the Department coordinates the Euro-BioImaging multi-sited Multi-Modal Molecular Imaging Italian Node (MMMI, www.mmmi.unito.it), which comprises other 7 facilities located in Milan, Naples and Pisa. The MMMI Node focuses on biomedical imaging, offering the acquisition of “in vivo” images by means of the most relevant imaging modalities. Besides instrumentation and expert staff for all the different “in vivo” imaging modalities, the Node provides the users with a large repository of imaging agents/tracers for the available imaging modalities and a number of cellular and animal models (mainly mice) of the relevant pathologies.

Within the MMMI Node, the Molecular Imaging Center of the University of Torino covers all the supply chain from the synthesis and physico-chemical characterization of the imaging probe to the in-cellulo and in-vivo evaluation, including validation by histology, microscopy, FACS, etc, with specific focus on MRI probes. A large repository of targeting and responsive probes is also available for user access.

The activity of the Molecular Imaging Center within the Euro-Bioimaging network is integrated by the Center of Excellence for Preclinical Imaging (CEIP) that is located at the BioIndustry Park “Silvano Fumero”, about 50 km north to Torino. This academic-industry joint lab is equipped with the state-of-the art imaging technologies (MRI, PET/SPECT/CT, NIRF, ultrasound, photoacoustic), also in combination, and provides high quality services to any users searching for an in vivo imaging support to their research.
